Amazing images of the far reaches of the universe are everywhere, but are they accurate? What does space really look like?

‘Habitable’ Exoplanets Might Not Be Very Earth-Like After All

“One of the most exciting moments in exoplanet science came in late February, when NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope announced the discovery of seven rocky planets orbiting in or near the habitable zone of their parent star, TRAPPIST-1, which lies 40 light years away from Earth.
‘The discovery sets a new record for greatest number of habitable-zone planets found around a single star outside our solar system,’ NASA said in a statement.”

The Electromagnetic Spectrum

“The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is the range of all types of EM radiation. Radiation is energy that travels and spreads out as it goes – the visible light that comes from a lamp in your house and the radio waves that come from a radio station are two types of electromagnetic radiation. The other types of EM radiation that make up the electromagnetic spectrum are microwaves, infrared light, ultraviolet light, X-rays and gamma-rays.”

Truth Behind the Photos: What the Hubble Space Telescope Really Sees

“When Hubble beams down images, astronomers have to make many adjustments, such as adding color and patching multiple photos together, to that raw data before the space observatory’s images are released to the public. Hubble doesn’t use color film (or any film at all) to create its images. Instead, it operates much like a digital camera, using what’s called a CCD (charge-coupled device) to record incoming photons of light.”

  1. People can’t seem to grasp that visible light makes up a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum. Just because astronomers add false color to these images, it doesn’t mean that these celestial bodies are frauds. I tried explaining that to an idiot on facebook with no luck. They just assumed that these pictures were photoshopped to add in fake galaxies here, fake nebulae there… ๐Ÿ˜ง

  2. Bull crap! Just more lies to extort millions of dollars into Nasa’s pockets. Send all the $$ into space! That will help everything.

  3. we just need goggles that do all that work so we can see it without all that work put into it.

  4. My favorite fake image that I wish it was real it is you Amy, and I know you don’t live in space, but you seem to be a star for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Ah! Disability my ass
This is why i’m proud of being colorblind
Screw you tricromatic vision bitches !

  6. I wish my ex girlfriends fake space boobs were real. Maybe then I would’ve stayed with her.

  7. I’ve seen much progress in the areas of artificial bodies or robots. The complexity continues to grow at a rapid rate but i wonder. How far has artificial eyes come? Some day I want eyes that can view the whole spectrum. and if it proves to much information to take in I could dial down

  8. I think we should send a satellite towards what we see as an empty spot in space. My reasoning for this is because its possible a star, solar sysem, galaxy is just forming, right now in the present but we cant see it yet because the light hasnt reached us.

  9. Where can I find pictures of space in real colors? I want to know how for example nebulae would look like, if i could see them through a window of a space ship.

  10. Space isn’t real. It’s just a hologram projected by the government using barium chemtrails onto the firmament to disguise the flat earth. No, I’m not crazy, I’m just more educated than you.

  11. Zwhy did you put FAKE. On it though??? It is still real. You know the conservarives will say its ALL fake

  12. What did you mean, when speaking of the ‘Pillars of Creation’, that “they’re not there now”?

  13. this woman is a drone-tard. Man never passed the Van Allen belts. She’s just another establishment zombie and hack.

  14. Pillars of creation gone? Meaning it no longer actually exists because of the great distance and the time require for the light to come? Or they literally visibly gone and cannot be seen now?

  15. Who are these “dislike” people? If I dont like something i move on but I guess people like to hate everything for any fucked up reason

  16. what the heck is going on with that spectrum graph at 0:13, with radio waves being blue and gamma rays being green?

  17. What’s funny, is that artist’s impression of Trappist-1f looks a lot like the one of Pluto in a book I got when I was a kid. Then when New Horizons flew past, Pluto looked nothing like that ๐Ÿ™‚
Edit: The one difference between the two drawings, is that instead of having a large close sun, the Pluto one had a bright star for our sun.

  18. the majority of space images are made up because we havent sent anything there to take the damn pictures… truth is we havent even been putside our own damn galaxy…

  19. You Dnews audience are lucky. You still have these lovely people doing videos. We the seekers daily audience, feel like we got kicked in the nuts.

  20. yes it doesn’t look like that if we could see it! but we have all the technology to see and detect every light color wavelength! what we see in images is what the telescopes capture through all the wavelengths they are set to filter
